It's your body and your choice!
My mom was against tattoos but she finally caved and got the trinity on the back of her neck. She loved it, and after that she added me and my sisters names on either side of it. She still thinks people that are totally covered are a bit much, but whatever. Its their decision to live with, right? I say don't let anyone, even your husband, hold you back from what you want to do. You only live once and it's not like you're young and getting some boys name on you forever. You're mature enough to make this decision :D You won't regret it!

I want to put the first initial of each of my children (I have three) in each quadrant of the Trinity. My mother always told me if you get something permanent, it better mean something. My children are my whole entire world so I feel really good about getting the tatt. I have thought about getting thhis particular tattoo for the last five years so it is not some sudden impulse. My husband hates tattoos and my in-laws are very critical of the idea because they think I am sending the wrong message to my children (whatever). I know my husband will be upset if I get the tatt. Am I wrong to just get the darn thing anyway? It is not that I don't care what he thinks, I just feel like it is MY body. Thoughts?

I say it really depends on the relationship with you and your husband. If he is REALLY against it, it could cause some serious problems. If it seems like he's against it, but it's not that big of a deal, and you don't think you'd really fight about it, I would just do it.

I had a coworker who was in her 50s. She never had a tattoo, but always wanted one, but her husband was not keen on the idea. One weekend her husband went out of town, she went and got a tattoo of her favorite sports team logo on her ankle. A few months later she got an anklet tattoo on her other leg. It wasn't a problem between her and her husband, I guess he figured "it's your body, do what you want".

As for the family members, don't worry about what they think. Anyone who thinks tattoos send the wrong message (unless they actually have a bad message written in them) needs to get out of the dark ages and look around at the world. ALL kinds of people have tattoos.

  5. That's my idea for a back tattoo, too!! A celtic triquetra with a green perfect circle intertwined. Minus the kid's names/initials, because I have none. It IS your body, but talk it over w/hubby first - you made a lifelong commitment to the man, so he ought to at least be able to give his side & views. Ultimately, it IS your decision, but I've always heard marriage = compromise. So maybe ya'll can come to an agreement? Maybe about the size & placement?
