I got my industrial about two months ago and I know it takes forever to heal but it's still bouncing between really swollen and sort of swollen and it's leaking fluids occasionally...My piercer hit me with a MEGA!! MEGA!! bent bar like the bottom is bent up like a staple bar and the top has like this half cork screw going through it. When I asked my piercer about two weeks after the Original piercing he said that he bends the bar because my ears not straight why should my bar be...he then said that I was experiencing issues because I touch it to much and haven't been using the sea salt spray enough I figured that could make sense so I went home and for the next three or so weeks I cleaned three times a day as directed and kept my hands off of it unless they were clean and I needed to wash it my ear got really sore and really icky so I stopped the obsessive compulsive ear cleaning and just left it alone completely and now it's sore and slightly swollen again

What I want to know is could I be allergic to the bar cause I wear hypoallergenic stuff in every other ear hole...?

Or could the bending of the bar be screwing with the hole...?

Advice please. I don't want non-sense answers though please I know I should probably go talk to the piercer but last time that didn't go so well so I just want alittle info help before going to talk to him again ( he's not very nice )

Yes the bent barbell is supposed to put less pressure on the ear, but if it is as bent as you say it is, I certainly wouldn't have bent it that much. If a client doesn't have a good ear for an industrial, instead of bending the barbell a lot, I suggest a different placement. (That also may be why he's not very nice.. no one likes their work criticized.)

I would recommend going to a DIFFERENT piercer and having them switch your barbell to two small rings instead. The swelling and discomfort may be from pressure from your jewelry. The curved barbell is supposed to put less pressure on your piercing, but it may not work. Once your ear heals, you can put a barbell back into it.

I do like his advise about not touching it.. keep your hands off of it, don't try to turn it or move it. The more you move it, the better chance that its going to scar.

You may be allergic to the jewelry.. if your jewelry is surgical stainless steel, have a piercer put titanium rings in it.

  3. You could try talking to another piecer. One you're more comfortable with, to give you a second opinion.
