I have been told many times that you should wash your hair as little as possible because shampoo strips your hair of its natural oils, (basically, ruins it). I can see that this works because my hair is not in much better condition since i've been washing it less. Is dry shampoo a safer option than using regular shampoo?

Is dry shampoo as bad for your hair as regular shampoo?

Shampooing is NOT bad for your hair- especially since conditioners came along. 30 years ago, all you could buy was shampoo- which was very harsh, leaving your hair very dry. That is why the idea that washing your hair too often will strip it came along- but it is far from true today. Cosmetic science has come a long way since then, and shampoos are much less harsh, and we have conditioners that replenish your hair's needed moisture. However, conditioners cannot re-create the natural oils in your scalp, which is why you should only wash your hair every 2-3 days. If you wash more frequently, your scalp can over-produce oil because it is too dry. (like how some people have oily skin because they are actually using too harsh of cleanser.) They dry shampoo will not ruin your hair either. Use it in between washings to help absorb excess oil and freshen the look of your hair.
Wash away, and know that you WON'T be ruining your hair.

It is true that washing your hair less often is healthier for your hair. It's recommended that you wash your hair like two to three times a week. If you're usually washing your hair every day, it will take a few weeks for your hair to become used to being washed less often. In between washes, you can use dry shampoo if your hair starts showing signs of becoming dirty but you shouldn't completely stop using regular shampoo and replacing it with dry shampoo. Basically, dry shampoo is only good for the few days between washing your hair but it should never totally replace straight up totally washing your hair from dirty/sweat/grease/hair products/etc.
