I asked this yesterday, but only got one answer and I want more opinions.

I died my hair black with a hair dye that comes out in 28 washes, last summer. It's the not the point that she doesn't want me to dye my hair, she thinks it's bad FOR me. She thinks it's bad for my hair (damaging) and it has "chemicals". I think it's a little ridiculous. It's called Natural Instincts and it's ammonia free. So how damaging is this?

by the way, the hair dye doesn't wash out in 28 washes in my hair. It clings to it for months. I still have some in, but it's faded.

    thanks.

It's not bad for your hair, especially if you use Semi-permanent, which is least damaging to your hair...It's getting your hair to another color that is damaging to your hair. Black hair color is the hardest color to get out of your hair, especially if you have color build up, which them it's pratically impossible to lift.

I THINK that the darker the hair dye you use, the more likely it is that you will have an allergic reaction to it, as it has higher levels of the chemical that people tend to be allergic to in it ... and you can become allergic at any time, so always do a strand test I suppose.

I don't really think it's bad for you at all - i used to have mine dyed black, and it does make your hair weaker / snaps and breaks more easily, so you need to use loads and loads of colour protect stuff on it. Also, it's really hard to get rid of, so unless you're actually 100% sure you want black for aaages, go for really really dark brown, because stripping black out is an actual nightmare and ruins your hair.

But yeh, go for it. I don't think it will do any harm.

  5. Normal dyes are really bad for your hair.; I dye mine permanent every week, and then have to take months repairing it cos of the damage. I've taken to using directions now, so it doesn't do it. It is still buggering my hair a little, but i'm sure if you don't do it as often as me it wont bother you.
EDIT: been dying my hair black, and then bleaching it to dye it colours religiously for almost 11 years, no cancer, numbnuts!

Dyeing hair specially the black dye, causes cancer.

When someone tells me they have cancer, the first thing that comes to mind is hair dyes. Yes, as long as I've known them, they've been dyeing their hair and it's always black.
