shampoo is bad for your hair even the ones claiming to be organic. the most healthiest thing to do is apply coconut oil for a few hrs and wash off with shikakai powder its a shampoo use in india and its pure. if u dont wanna use shikakai. atleast try coconut oil becuz da shampoo will damage ur hair.

Question: Are you considered Caucasian? White? European? Anglo-Saxon? etc?
Many Caucasians wash their hair every day. This is mostly because their hair produces and accumulates oil very quickly. Your hair might not be dirty, but it will be oily.
To see if you need to wash it everyday, first try to skip a day. Does your hair look greasy? Heavy? Weighed down or stringy? You may need to wash it everyday.
Frequent Shampooing will however strip your hair of moisture. So if your scalp or hair is becoming damaged and dry, use a moisturizing shampoo.

Absolutely not! I wash my hair every night, and, not trying to brag, I have some of the best hair in my class! I hate it too when my hair smells odd!

If your hair doesn't feel damaged or dried out from daily shampooing, then continue doing so. It's generally recommended to go at least a day without shampooing, but if daily washes benefits your hair, then keep up with it, as what works for my hair may not for you.
As for the smell, it could simply be that you are smelling something that isn't really even there, simply because of how often you shampoo. You might just be really used to the smell of freshly cleansed hair, so perhaps that's why you think there is a smell. That or you are simply hyper-aware of the smell of your hair, thus the smell is magnified to you.
I have an oily scalp, and I find that washing my hair less often and using sweet almond oil in my conditioner (and conditioning my roots as well) helps lessen the oil production. So lessening how often you shampoo may benefit your oil production, which may help keep it smelling nicer since you may not be producing as much oil. Perhaps try reducing your shampoo time during the summer when you are out of school, see if it helps.

It's not bad to wash your hair every night but I can tell you that this is the reason you get oily hair so fast. Since you are removing your natural oils everyday your oil glands go into overproduction mode. It's not bad, but you have to wash more frequently. In my experience, I don't wash it for a couple days and the natural oils aren't overbearing anymore and there is no product on the market which makes my hair softer than my natural oils.
