I imagine that it is likely not legal (in most states anyway). I live in Pennsylvania and you can no longer go to any little piercing stand at the mall and get anything other than your actual lobes pierced - meaning, no cartilage or funky piercings and stuff. In order to gauge someone's ears, you need to go to a licensed pierce/tattoo shop, and in which case you must be 18 for them to even touch you. But, like I said, I think the laws vary from state to state.

PS - how hilarious is it that the one person who commented with nothing but the negative answer: "seriously???" has their nickname as "SEXUAL PREDATOR" lol!

yes it would be child neglect or endangering or cruelty, or something, but it is definitely not something that a licensed shop would touch.

Well, you are supposed to go to a professional piercing studio to get help gauging your ears, and in most places you have to be 16 or 18 to even step foot in those shops.

To gauge anyone under legal age of piercing would be considered mutilation and child abuse. Those are pretty hefty charges that anyone with half a brain would want to avoid. Even if the parent isn't the one who did it, the authorities would come looking at the parent as the primary custodian and ultimately responsible for their child.

On a side note, I disagree with being able to pierce your baby's ears. That in itself is mutilation and child abuse, in my opinion. There should be no "fine line" in this matter.

well you dont have to be 18 to buy gauges, so you should be fine. Just start with regular pierced ears, and then later buy the smallest gauge available. Just buy bigger gauges one size at a time, over an extended period of time

Wow, "sexual predator"....I don't think you really have a right to even answer this question with a screen name like that...lol.

Anyway, to answer your question - I imagine that it is illegal, seeing how gauging must be done in a licensed tattoo/pierce shop, and you must be 18 years of age, regardless of having a parent present, in order to get any work done.
