Is it normal for recently pierced ears to hurt a little bit after cleaning?

On Friday I got my ears pierced for the first time at Claires.

After I clean my ears, they hurt a little for about 10-20 minutes after, but after that they settle down and I don't feel any pain.

Also, sometimes they itch (but I never itch them)

Is this normal? Or should I be concerned?
btw, it was a normal ear piercing.

Very normal. You have a unhealed area. You will burn and hurt until it heals. The itching shows it is healing. What happens is it will heal arround the earring and you will have a permanent hole. Make sure to keep them cleaned and turn the earrings several times a day so as they heal they won't grown arround the earring.

Usually after 6 weeks you can start changing earrings..Don't until then and at first always use hyperallogetic earrings or gold or silver until your able to wear the cheaper brands. You will have to see after 6 weeks. Some people can wear any brands, even the cheapest....I am like that but my daughters can only wear 14 carrot gold and sterling silver posts and wires.

Its normal. You basically just made a hole in your ear; a wound. So obviously (depending on where you pierced your ears) it's going to be hurting for a few weeks. Its normal and it'll pass.

It's normal. I remember when I got mine pierced for the first time, they were really sore after I cleaned them. Same thing with my sister. Don't worry about it. Your ears will get used to it soon(:

Fresh piercings being cleaned properly should not be painful. They should be a bit sore at first pretty consistently throughout the day but cleaning them the right way shouldn't exacerbate it. Claires gives horrible aftercare instructions.

First off, throw away that cleanser crap you got from them. It is only going to irritate your piercings.
Second, stop rotating your piercings. Mall "piercers" advise this but actual licensed piercers will tell you that is the best way to irritate your piercings and possibly end up with an infection. Rotating your jewelry only drags dirt, bacteria and crusted lymph into your open wounds. It scrapes up the fistula of your piercing and prolongs healing.
Third, get some non-iodized sea salt and start doing sea salt soaks. Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon sea salt in 8 oz very warm water, dunk a cotton ball into the solution and hold it to your ear for about ten minutes. Do this a few times a day.
Fourth, throw away those gross stud earrings and get some proper jewelry to heal your ears with. Something made of surgical stainless steel or titanium is best. I always used to wear circular barbells and for me those were best.

    Something like this is fine:

    Something like this is better:

    You need 18G.

    Good luck.
