I just got my third cartilage piercing done several days ago, and since then the piercing hasn't been right.
It's swollen a lot, and has spread further down the ear, now to the lobe. Which looks as if it's going to blister. There isn't any fluid/puss coming out of the piercing, but there is a crust. It throbs from time to time and only hurts to touch (which i guess is normal for any piercing).
I bath it with warm salty water, with a cotton wool bud, 4 times a day for the past 2 days. I don't think this is helping a great deal. I also put the piercing solution on that was given to me by Claire's, and apply as i was told.

The two previous cartilage piercings i've had, have done the same but not quite as bad. They both healed within 12 weeks and the infection/swelling seemed to clear up pretty well after a couple of days.
I've read that you should seek advice from a doctor for them to provide you antibiotics which i plan to do.
I haven't taken the earring out as i understand this definitely won't help. I'm concerned as i've only had it pierced for several days (with a 9ct gold earring) and as far as i'm aware i'm not allergic to it.

I'm interested in what other people have experience and would appreciate your help and advice.
    :)

hi Kelly, have you tried a cold compress for the swelling? Apply a bit of petroleum jelly to the ear and around piercing site to prevent crust formation. Reduce the number of times you are cleaning with salty water to morning and night time. Check to see if the piercing solution is the same one you've used before...if not consider the possibility that this may be the cause of the inflammation. If there is no change seek advise from your GP.

Hydrogen peroxide may be helpful in clearing this up, too.
