Hey so i know this is kind of pathetic but i am sort of a makeup virgin. I do use mascara and eyeliner once in a while but that's pretty much how far I've gone. and get this, I just turned eighteen last week. yikes!

So i don't have a big problem with blemishes or anything such as pimples. but I do have an uneven skin tone in some spots, and I would like to get that sort of fresh look. I'm of east indian decent so my skin is a light brown shade. my skin is dry but my nose is oily (if that makes any sense)

Anyways i need tips for buying makeup
    what kind should i buy?
    foundation vs powder
whats a primer and do i need it?
how do i find the perfect shade?
what good drugstore brands are there? because i don't want to buy anything expensive seeing as its the first time I'm using it.

What shade of blush should i get? (i don't want anything dramatic just natural looking to highlight my cheek bones)

    what about lipstick/ lipgloss?
should i get a nice lipstain?

    HELP!
WOW guys THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!! It was really hard for me to pick the best answer, you guys were all really helpful!
i cant wait to try this all out
    thanks!

first i would like to say BREATHE! :) i will help you and you'll be on your way to having the best makeup for you, it's not pathetic that you are makeup virgin, good for you, so many girls cake on makeup starting at a very young age (me being one of them, lol) first you should know you have combination skin which is fancy for oily t-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and the rest of your face is dry. that's key to know when purchasing foundation, cleansers, etc. mascara is a good start for a makeup novice but eyeliner is trickier so kudos, for your skin you need clean makeup by covergirl for oily skin. i put a link below in the source box of the foundation in a color i chose for you based on your description of your skin color if that doesn't look like your shade feel free to browse through the site for a different shade of makeup in the same formula. choose one that looks most like your skin and try it, it may not be your exact shade but through trial and error you'll find your shade, if you want a better match with no effort go to a department or specialty store like sephora or ulta and ask them to find a foundation that matches your skin exactly. they'll want you to purchase the foundation and it tends to be a bit pricey, so if money is a problem your best bet would be ulta because they have drugstore brands as well as name brands. to control shine in your t-zone you can apply a very light dusting of translucent powder to the area, primer is just a moisturizer-like lotion you apply before any other makeup to prolong it's duration on your face but powder does the same thing, so you do not need primer, waste of money if you ask me, for blush use smart shade from almay it's this cool blush that is a purplish cream at first then transforms into the perfect blush for you once you blend it in, use very little of it and it's pretty foolproof. no lipstick, it's too heavy and not necessary, nor lip stain, that's a bit tricky and not really good to start out with instead use lip gloss, nivea has a nice sheer lip gloss with pink tint to it that is perfect to start with. volum' express mascara is the best mascara i've tried and believe me i've tried just about all of them, it eliminates the need for a lash curler because it has a curved brush, it makes you look prettier, your eyes pop, you're lashes will be curled and make eyeshadow look better, if you buy anything it would be this mascara, if it was the only product i could have it would be that. if you want eyeliner to make your eyes pop, HIP L'Oreal eyeliner is great for beautiful colors and long wear. if you have brown eyes like me (mine are very dark brown) forest greens, plum purples, gold bronzes, navy blue or chocolate browns bring out your eyes whether it be eyeliner or eyeshadow, black mascara is best for you but brownish black is just as good for a softer daytime look. you can find all the products i mentioned in the source bar below. :D

-try going for a tinted moisturizer instead of a foundation.
it'll moisturize your skin and even out your skin tone.
-a primer keeps your eyeshadow, foundation, etc in place.
-definitely go to a make up counter (MAC, Sephora, Macy's, Nordstrom) they help tons when finding your perfect shade.
-covergirl is my favorite drugstore brand.
-go for a light pink, if you want to highlight your cheekbones use a bronzer.
-covergirl has lip stains in a bunch of different shades.

try to keep it light and experiment at first until you get it right.
    good luck :)

you would want to use the powder the foundation can look really gross like u have an extra layer of skin and can crack. Also I heard it;s more likely to cause wrinkles (but im not sure if that's true) Anyways just make sure you blend it. Primer is the best thing! This grabs on to the eyeshadows and makes it last longer. If you get primer like a really good one you can use drug store make up items. I would recommend rimmel. Blush you should stay away unless its a special occasion. Use a bare lipstick or just plain old lip gloss. I feel lip stick is really for like special occasions as well. Don't use eyelash curlers they have a tendency to make your eyelashes fall off! umm let's see what else? oh! theres this best website ever! that I go on for make up ideas and actual videos to learn how to use some products or make a certain look its called

    I really do hope I helped! :]

Easy peasy! For the dry skin (that's oily around the nose), you might want to try the Cucumber Lotion and Aloe Moisturizer from Mario Badescu. You can go to the website there and fill out a questionnaire, and they send you samples of it for free! They send you samples picked out specifically for your skin type, and you can choose to buy whichever ones you like! It's also available at Ulta if you'd like to take a look at it there. It runs a little pricier than stuff like Clean-n-Clear or Clearasil, but I'd say it's worth it.

Once you have a good foundation (ahem, in terms of skin), makeup is no problem. I use Maybelline Pure Makeup liquid foundation. It's SO light, so it will feel like you're not even wearing it, but also provides great coverage; this will be good for evening out your skin tone. Remember to always use a makeup sponge when applying! Using your fingertips is non-hygienic and messy. It also never evens out quite right. There is also Maybelline Mineral Power powder that goes along with it. I use this over the foundation on days when I want a more refined look or need a little extra coverage. These are both available at Walgreen's or Rite Aid, and often certain brands are on sale for buy-one-get-one-free/half off. They run about 8 dollars apiece regularly.

I have never used a primer and since you're not going to be wearing a ton of makeup, I don't see the point in it at this juncture.

The perfect shade can be a little trickier. I usually sneak the bottles open at the store and take a look at the liquid itself, since the pictures on the containers can be misleading. Usually the shades are pretty polarizing so you'd be able to easily pick out which one would be best for you. You can also (usually) return it if it ends up not working. I sometimes made the mistake of buying makeup in the tone I WISHED my skin looked like... Big mistake! Be realistic and sensible and finding the right shade(s) should be no problem.

As I mentioned before, Maybelline is great for foundation and powder. As for mascara, I also use Maybelline's Define-a-Lash (in the bright green or bright pink tube). I use Wet-n-Wild's Mega Line liquid eyeliner or Maybelline's Define-a-line, both in black, because I have brown eyes. Maybelline and Revlon are both generally affordable.

As for blush, I'm no expert. I have rosy-ish cheeks to begin with, so I don't worry much. To you, since you have light brown skin, I might advise using a bronzer instead of blush. Apply less than you would with blush, and you'll have a gorgeous shimmer that will both accentuate your cheekbones and add a beautiful color to your face. A very dusty, rosy pink might also accentuate your skin tone, without making it seem too olivey or yellow (which can often happen to mine.)

Lipstick is a very delicate thing. Some people look great in it; others don't. To start out, I'd say sticking with a tinted lip shimmer would be best. Burt's Bees has great tinted chapsticks. Fig and Watermelon are my favorite colors. They also have the same awesome cooling effect of all the other Burt's products. If you're comfortable with a lip shimmer (NOT a gloss), you might want to move up to lipstick. Stick with a shade you're comfortable with at first, then branch out if you'd like. Lip gloss is great in moderation, but you want to be careful so your lips aren't SUPER awkwardly shiny, or that awkward golden color that some lip glosses have. Go for gloss, not pearl. Lipstain is great, too, but like I said, find a color (or colors) that you're comfortable with in terms of lip shimmer before moving on to lipstain.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Try going to covergirl.com. They have a lot of how to, and live chat. I am an older lady who has used cover girl cosmetics for many years, and has found the live chat very useful.

As far as foundation goes, make sure it matches your skin type. You should get something with light coverage [since all you need to do it even out the skin tone] and it should be for dry skin, since most of your face is dry. I prefer liquid foundation, but you should just try both and see what you like. A primer usually helps hold makeup in place, it's best to use if you're putting on eyeshadow so it doesn't smudge, but since your skin isn't oily, you won't have as big of a need for it.

If you go to a good makeup store that sells professional makeup, not just drugstore types, the counter ladies are usually very helpful with making sure you buy the right shade.

Good drugstore brand: Revlon Colorstay. It's about $10.

The blush shade is hard to guess since I can't see your exact shade of skin, but whatever you get, if you want it to look natural, all you have to do is apply small amounts.

Darker skin usually looks gorgeous with a more deep, dark, rich color on the lip if you want color at all. But lipgloss is nice for an everyday look.

Also, I know you don't want to spend loads of money on makeup, but if you start buying it more reguarly and want a good tip to look your best: Good brushes are worth the outstanding price tags. A good makeup brush can completely change your look.

  9. Well for foundation/powder = both because you put your foundation on and then your concelear fpr any spots or dark circles under your eyes. Then put your powder on lightly over the top as it makes your foundation and concelear blend together.
these are the products i would use-
    Dream matte mousse by maybelline
    Any meybelline concelear
    dream matte powder.
These are all links to how to apply them,
    http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Face/Powder/dream-matte-powder.htm
    http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Face/Concealer/cover-stick-corrector-concealer.htm
    http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Face/Foundation/dream-matte-mousse-makeup.htm

    you don't need a primer.x
to find the perfect shade go to a store where they would like apply the make up for you and aks them what shade would suit your skin.

    Maybelline or rimmel

    http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Face/Blush/Mineral-Power-Naturally-Luminous-Blush.htm

    this blush.

get a nice lipgloss either clear or with a natural colour. Don't get a lipstick they look too old fashioned. I wouldn't get a lipstain because STAIN is the right word they stain for ages and if the colour goes wrong your lips will be bright red for ages.
    I reccomed this lipgloss
    http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Lip/LipGloss/colorsensational-lip-gloss.htm
and then apply this plumper over the top like this

  10. so first wash your face with a cleanser
you have combination skin btw that's what it means when its oily and dry in some part

then id put moisturizer (oil free) along your whole face.
olay is a good drugstore brand.

well sense you only wanna even your skin tone
use a liquid makeup, not cream or anything heavy.
i like loreal true match for drugs stores
its great for just evening everything out (that's all i need to do) with still look natural
make sure to set it with a powder (just some loose translucent or a color whichever you choose)
id focus this where your oily then use the left over on your brush on your face.

you dont need primer it will just make it last longer, i never need it, some people do, just wait and see what you think.

id look at the inside of your wrist, and when in doubt i usually say go with the lighter one, cause it can look lighter in the bottle, but its actually shows up darker
i have this problem a lot since im so pale!

for eyes id just use some eyeliner maybe some pretty shadows (just pick colors you like!)
    i like loreal telescopic mascara

pretty much loreal and neutragene(sp? sorry) are my go-to drug store brands!
i use neutragene healthy blend blush
i use the reddish pink one (im really palisn'td this isnt to dark)
just start out light and add more till its too your liking!
but you can also use a pink or peach blush! thats up to you
    i just like that one!

im not sure what to do with lipstick since i dont use it.
but i heard revlon is good for lipstick.
stains can be messy i think
i usually just where lipgloss if that
