my gauges wont open, is there a special way to do it?

    All you have to do is pull the ring apart a little bit and the segment will fall out.
    I find that 14ga is very easy to get open with fingers, 12 is a bit iffy, and anything over 10 you're definitely going to need ring openers. If you don't have them you can use 2 pairs of pilers and protect the jewelry with thick cloth so it doesn't get scratched.

    A gauge is a unit of measurement. You bought segment rings. There's not really any special way to do it, you just need to find the right spot to pop out. Try pushing like right in the center (inside of the ring towards the out) of the segment that comes out.
