do not use any petroleum based anything when stretching your ears. The best is to use a water or silicone based lubricant. It will hurt when you stretch them technically you're supposed to do it slowly over a few days with the tapers but I never did. Just keep them clean and twist them once a day like you do when you get your ears pierced for the first time. Use antibacterial soap and water to clean them or if you have piercing cleaner that is good too. Sea salt and water is another good way to keep them clean. Happy stretching.

Pain after inserting 14g tapers?

Some swelling and discomfort is to be expected, but this varies from person to person. A stinging sensation is also normal, and from another person's perspective they will indeed look very swolen and red, and not 'normal' at all.
Without seeing a photo of your ears it's very difficult for anyone to say whether you've got a problem or not.
Usually, the majority of the redness and swelling goes down within 24-48 hours, although the ears will still be tender for a day or two after that..
Going from a standard piercing to a 14g is almost doubling the hole's size, (1mm to 2mm), so you must expect some pain.Speaking as someone who has stretched lobes myself, I would suggest that you should give them a clean with salt-water as a precaution, and leave them in for another 24 hours. Try to resist the temptation of fiddling with the tapers. Don't even touch them in-fact.
To answer your question in a more direct way though.. yes. You have to endure the pain. For another day or two at least. The redness is normal when stretching, and so is the warm skin. The next stretch will be much easier as your body will be more used to it.
If you do decide that want to take them out, then the best way is to just put some water on your ear (no vasseline) and slowly pull them out. Then let your ears heal and try again.
You can attempt to put your originals back in if you wish, but most infections and piercing problems arise from constantly changing and fiddling around with things.Feel free to email with any further questions. I'm pretty heavily pierced so i know what i'm on about. Lol. ^_^
