I was thinking about buying the 5-piece proactiv system, but I have some concerns. I heard that it makes your face break out a lot worse before it starts to work. Why does this happen? Also I heard that your skin becomes dependent on it?
btw I have mild acne and combination skin
I'm sorry I've never used Proactiv but I have used a drugstore brand that is the same ingredients but even stronger called AcneFree Severe. They also have more gentle ones by AcneFree, but my skin is combination as well and I get zits often so I needed the stronger stuff. I've been using AcneFree since I was about 18 and I had awesome skin until I turned 21 and now my skin is changing so my regime has to change too. The great thing is that it's very easy to purchase. I've heard a lot of bad things about Proactiv but a lot of good things too, so it really just depends on the person but if you want to try out something that is practically the same I definitely recommend AcneFree! You can get it at CVS or Walgreens.
By the way, now I'm using Clinique's Acne Solutions line that was highly recommended and it's done wonders for my skin...that and getting more vitamin B6 in my diet. P.S. Not everyone breaks out before it starts to work, but sometimes when trying something new this will happen temporarily because your face is adjusting to something completely different and it's "drawing out your impurities". I was told this would happen with Clinique's stuff too but I didn't really notice anything, my skin has gotten a lot better.
the proactiv commercials that they have on t.v. is most likely a lie. Everyone says that it makes ur skin worse. Also, you notice how on t.v. it shows them with pimples then after using proactiv, it becomes beautiful skin? That's a lie too. It was first their beautiful skin, then they started having pimples...
i really do not recommend u to buy this product.
I have been using Proactiv for about 4 or 5 years now. I have the 5 piece and I never break out and it just a little irritation that your skin have to get use to the product. I loves it!!!
It common for ANY new acne treatment to cause a breakout when first starting, it usually goes away within a couple of weeks, just stick with it and you'll be fine. Some people have massive break outs after quitting but I never did. As for growing dependent on it, the ingredients are really no different than what's in regular drug store brands, salicylic acid and benzyol peroxide. But they also contain higher quality inactive ingredients which once stopped and you go back to something cheaper might be a little shock to the skin, eventually that should go away (again, never happened to me).
If you want to try it I suggest buying it at the mall instead of mail order since you won't be on their autoship program and you can buy whenever you need instead of whenever they ship. It's the same price, even though it doesn't appear that way it is. I asked a sales associate once and that's what she told me (with mail order you have to consider shipping and you're still paying taxes either way). Plus you get the freebies EVERY time instead of just the first.
