Why do pretty girls think they're ugly and ugly girls think they are pretty?

Pretty girls always want to look better. They want to keep improving their looks (maybe because of low-self esteem... or they know of more pretty girls that they idol in magazines, TV shows, movies, etc.) as oppose to ugly girls that I think focus more on their personality and try improving that because they don't pay as much attention to the media as oppose to the prettier girls, which is why the uglier girls don't really know what "pretty" is, nor do they feel pressured into conforming into that stereotype of "pretty" as seen in the media.
This is also why I think prettier girls are MOST (not all) are often looked at as mean bitches, because the truth is that they really do care about how they physically present themselves more than their actual personality.
Bottom line, they're influenced differently than the "pretty" girls, and the media really does effect this.
EDIT: I agree with the response below me too... not all ugly girls think they're pretty. A lot of them know they're ugly. They just don't really know how to make themselves appear pretty I guess... maybe they just don't care enough to. Or it could be because they're happy with their lives and they don't obsess over the media like the prettier girls... (as said above.)

That's not always true but yeah it just has to do with how confident they are and how much self esteem they have.

That's not exactly true, it really depends. Some beautiful girls think their ugly just so they can get compliments, and some pretty girls actually think they are for who knows what. Some ugly girls think they are pretty because they believe every one is pretty (I agree), and some ugly girls just need more self esteem so they lie to themselves to make them feel better. As you can see, it really depends.

this is ignorant, not all ugly girls think they are pretty, most of them know they are ugly. and pretty girls say they are ugly so people can say no you aren't so it can boost their self-esteem. kay thanks.

pretty girls know they are pretty, they are just being coy when they say I think I am ugly...ugly girls hope they aren't ugly but deep down they know they are...mirrors don't lie
