I started stretching my ears so I researched all about them, and I read about how tapers are not meant to be left in for a long time but I wanted to know why they come in pairs and have the rubber bands if they are just supposed to stretch your ear.

Why do tapers have the little rubber bands?

They're called o-rings.
Lots of people leave tapers in for a few minutes while they sort plugs out, or give their ear a little time to relax.
With lots of lube, tapers tend to just slide right back out again. O-rings are handy.Tapers shouldn't be worn for long periods of time. And efinately not slept in. But a few minutes won't hurt (unless they're massively heavy)
And alot of the cheap tapers are catered towards silly people that don't know how to stretch, and just want to look 'cool'. With tapers as jewellery. They fail.
