i'm more well off than a majority of people here and i have expensive taste, but i don't want to look like a showy dick, will i?

No.

However, most people wouldn't know what brand it is nowadays in the "average suburb".

Generally they only know "lower preppy brands" such as American Eagle, Hollister, AERO, Abercrombie, etc...

I once wore a Lacoste shirt into school and literally 4 times I got "Dude, why the hell are you wearing an alligator?" and they were 100% serious.

I also like to wear Original Penguin (my FAVORITE brand) and the ENTIRE day people asked me these 2 things- "Oh cool! When did you go to the zoo!?" and "Erm, dude, you know that you have a penguin on your shirt right..."

I continue to wear them because I like their clothes, but... uch....
